SALY VELINGARA BALLET  from Saly Portudal Mbour, SENEGAL has artists with inventive, imaginative and creative genius. These itinerant artists of rhythm and sound brings together all the traditional Senegalese instruments to create sounds by bringing together several dances in order to represent them throughout the world in an original dialogue where rhythms, dances and songs mingle to form a total spectacle, of carrying a message of peace and fraternity.

Saly Vélingara is a village located 7km from the town of Mbour and 2km from the seaside resort of saly portudal in senegal. It is inhabited by different ethnic groups such as the Malinkés, the Diolas, the Diankhakés, Bambaras, Serers, Peuls, Toucouleurs, Socés, etc.…

The diversity of this population brings to the village a great richness cultural.

This fabulous mixture incites Madame Gnouma Doucara to create in 1986 thesaly Vélingara group to promote dances, songs and music traditions of Senegal and West Africa.

 

The Saly Velingara Group is made up of dancers, dancers, flutists, korists, percussionists, balafonist, stilt walker, coumpo, limbo, false lion, and Fulani acrobats driven by respect and passion for this tradition.

In traditional Africa, dance and music are an integral part of life daily. Dance, a social fact par excellence, accompanies All circumstances of the life of the individual and the village: births, baptism, harvests, weddings, funerals, and initiations.

Dances of life, death, the eternal and the everyday, they find their tracks in the drums. Each event corresponds to a rhythm and a particular dance; The extreme richness and precision of this musical heritage and choreography can surprise the uninformed. True symbiosis, dance never appears without percussion and Conversely. Dances, songs and percussion mark the life of the village.

The transmission of this knowledge remains an oral tradition held by the families of griots or percussionists

Driven by passion and respect for this tradition, the ballet artists, strong of their common will and their works present you a spectacle rich in energy which is still the testimony of an ancestral tradition
